What is it?

Literacy Lunches are a drop-in opportunity for Haverhill families to enjoy a free lunch (18 and under) and participate in a fun 1-hour literacy program presented by community partners. Literacy Lunches will include a read-aloud of a children’s book (in both English and Spanish whenever possible) followed by an interactive craft project, movement game, or other coordinating activity. Each family will receive a copy of the book that was read that day to add to their home libraries. Parents must stay to supervise their children.

Locations/Dates

Literacy Lunches take place every Friday at Noon from June 25th through August 27th. Three Literacy Lunches will run simultaneously at the following Haverhill Public Schools Summer meal sites:

  • Consentino School (685 Washington St.) *Outdoor program

  • Hunking School (480 S. Main St.) *Outdoor program

  • Haverhill YMCA (81 Winter St.) *Indoor program- optional swim time

Families may choose any of the three sites, which will all have their own unique program.

*For outdoor programs, please bring a blanket or beach towel to sit on. Program will take place under covered area in case of rain.

*For the indoor program at the YMCA, be sure to bring a towel and swim suit if your family plans to swim at the end of the program.
